FEED ADDITIVES & SUPPLEMENTS

Poultry birds require various feed additives and supplements in their diet to ensure optimal growth, health, and production. They are used to address specific nutritional needs and to overcome imbalances & toxins in their diet.
Here are the main reasons why poultry birds may require additives and supplements in their diet.

Specific Health Concerns: specific health concerns may necessitate dietary additives or supplements. For example, coccidiosis is a common intestinal disease in poultry, and anticoccidial medications or natural alternatives may be added to the diet to prevent or treat it.

Nutrient Imbalances: poor quality local feed ingredients lead to nutrient imbalances in the bird's diet. Supplements can be used to correct these imbalances and ensure that poultry receive the required nutrients in the right proportions.

Mycotoxins in feed produced by moulds due to poor storage can negatively affect bird health and performance. mycotoxin binders and detoxifiers are used to protect poultry from harmful substances in feed ingredients. These binders help neutralize mycotoxins in the digestive system.

It's essential to note that additives and supplements for poultry diets should be used in compliance with regulations and guidelines. The formulation of poultry diets should be based on the specific needs of the birds, taking into account their age, breed, purpose (meat or egg production), and environmental factors to ensure optimal growth and health while minimizing negative environmental impacts.

NUTRINOVA Ugandas first fully fledged animal nutrition solutions company has a wide range of feed additives and supplements to support your birds from day one till infinity.

HOW TO IDENTIFY CALCIUM DEFICIENCIES

Identifying calcium deficiencies in poultry requires careful observation of the birds and their performance. Here are some signs and methods to help you identify calcium deficiencies in your poultry:

Poor bone development: Calcium is essential for bone and skeletal development. Calcium deficiency can result in weak and brittle bones, leading to skeletal deformities and leg problems. Birds may have difficulty standing, walking, or perching, and this can result in lameness or leg fractures.

Eggshell quality issues: Calcium is crucial for forming strong eggshells. In layers, a calcium deficiency can lead to thin, soft, or deformed eggshells. These eggs are more susceptible to cracking during production and handling, leading to a decrease in egg quality and increased economic losses.

Reduced egg production: Calcium is also necessary for the proper functioning of the reproductive system. In layers, calcium deficiency can lead to decreased egg production, smaller egg size, and a reduced number of eggs laid. In severe cases, hens may stop laying altogether.

Behavioral changes:
Birds with calcium deficiency may show changes in behavior, such as reduced activity, reluctance to move, and signs of discomfort. They may spend more time sitting or lying down, which can lead to a decrease in feed consumption and overall growth.

Increased susceptibility to diseases: Weakened bones and reduced immune system function can make calcium-deficient birds more susceptible to diseases and infections. They may not be able to fight off infections effectively, leading to increased mortality rates in the flock.

Feather problems:
Calcium deficiency can also affect feather quality. Birds may exhibit poor feathering, including brittle and damaged feathers. This can affect the birds' ability to regulate their body temperature and may result in thermal stress.

To prevent and address calcium deficiency in poultry, it is crucial to provide a well-balanced diet with the appropriate levels of calcium for the specific poultry type and production stage.

At NUTRINOVA, we are committed to revolutionizing poultry farming by offering premium calcium supplements designed to enhance the health, productivity, and overall well-being of your chickens which include LIMESTONE, NUTRICAL, DCP & MCP.

HERE ARE THE CAUSES OF MALABSOPRTION

Inadequate Nutrition: Poor-quality or imbalanced poultry feed can lead to malabsorption. Diets lacking essential vitamins, minerals, protein, or energy can result in nutrient deficiencies.

Coccidiosis: A common parasitic disease in poultry, coccidiosis can damage the intestinal lining, disrupting nutrient absorption

Gut Microbiota Imbalance: An imbalance of beneficial and harmful gut bacteria can hinder nutrient absorption in the intestines.

Mycotoxins: Contamination of feed with mycotoxins, produced by molds, can negatively affect nutrient absorption and cause various health issues in poultry.

Water Quality: Poor water quality, contaminated with harmful bacteria or toxins, can negatively affect digestion and nutrient absorption.

Genetic Factors: Certain poultry breeds or genetic lines may be more susceptible to malabsorption due to genetic predispositions.

Environmental Stress: Stressful environmental conditions, such as extreme temperatures, overcrowding, poor ventilation, and poor hygiene, can lead to chronic stress, which may impact nutrient absorption.

Diet Changes: Abrupt changes in diet can disrupt the balance of gut bacteria and affect nutrient absorption.

The increased resistance of the COCCIDIOSIS parasites to coccidiostats (coccidiosis drugs) in East Africa is very common and can only be solved by strengthening and improving current coccidiosis control programmes at your farm to reduce resistance.

COCCIDIOSIS damages the intestinal linings of the host (GUT) causing huge losses and set back to farmers. To avoid the adverse effects of coccidiosis, improved GUT HEALTH to enable animals cope with challenging situations and prevent the over growth of coccidia parasites by enabling the gut to compete for resources & produce anti microbial substances to fight against the parasite. A healthy gut acts as a barrier that prevents coccidia from invading the intestinal cells thus protecting against coccidiosis.

To improve GUT HEALTH PRETECT D from NUTRINOVA is a natural solution that supports gut health. PRETECT D is available at all our outlets, agents and vet shops countrywide.
