HEAT STRESS
In Uganda we are experiencing a heatwave in most parts of the country which makes livestock more susceptible to heat stress due to limited temperature regulation mechanisms in most poultry farms.
Manifestations of heat stress include
1.Panting
2.Reduced feed intake
3.Decreased activity & movement
4.Wing spreading
5.Lower egg production and increased mortality especially in broilers.
The following factors contribute to Heat stress in poultry
1.Inadequate Ventilation increasing the risk of heat stress.
2.Overcrowding of birds.
3.High ambient temperatures which limit effective heat dissipation.
4.High Humidity which hinders efficient evaporative cooling.
5.Intense sunlight that elevates temperatures.
Join us tomorrow as we uncover the solutions and new technologies that will help you manage & mitigate heatstress during the heatwave we are experiencing locally.
