GUIDELINES ON HOW TO USE MINERAL BLOCKS
The amount of mineral block consumption by adult and young cattle is dependent on several factors such as the type of mineral block, their diet, and environmental conditions. However, some general guidelines can be provided:
1.Adult cows: consume about 56 to 113 grams of mineral block per day. This varies depending on their size, lactation status, and the specific mineral deficiencies.
2.Young Cows (Calves): consume about 28 to 56 grams per day
3.Feed at a rate of one block per 5 head of cattle and one block per 10 head of goats. This allows all animals equal access to blocks.
4.Do not allow animals to run out of mineral blocks. When a block is two-thirds consumed, provide a new block near it
5.It's essential to regularly monitor mineral block consumption to ensure cows are getting the necessary nutrients without overconsumption, which can lead to imbalances or toxicity.
